Saturday, September 19th, I did the Big River Sweep with many members in the RLC. At first I was skeptical about doing the sweep, because Andy was talking about how deep the water was and that if I got injured that it was on me. I expected it to be cold, and very deep water. I thought I was going to be swimming in the water, and picking up huge objects that's bigger than Sprinkle. I thought I was going to be seeing big fish, basically I had this idea that I was going to do some form of scuba diving. My thoughts and Andy’s experiences had me frightened about doing the Big River Sweep. However, I was optimistic and thought that this could be a great experience and I would learn much from it. While, doing the river sweep I learned a lot about my RLC members and it gave me the opportunity to bond with them. At first the water wasn’t deep at all, I was just walking and looking for trash. But, then the water began to get deeper, once the water began to reach me and everyone else noses, Lillian stepped up the plate. She used her height to pull us and the kanu with trash in it, to less deep water. While walking down stream, we would catch each other when we trip over rocks or just fell. We worked together to find trash and grab the big objects. We pushed those kanu’s together, we did everything together during this project. We found many things, we basically found a whole car. Even though we couldn’t collect everything we took pictures of where the trash was located so someone else could get it. I never got to “swim” in the water, but I did get to float. Nor, did I see big fish, but I did see small like bass fish. During the walking and the picking up of the trash, I got talking with my floormates. I got to learn what they like to do,and just interesting things about them. This learning service allowed me to get to know the people that I now considered to be “the
