Billy Bishop, the number-one Canadian ace during World War I, made a positive impact on Canada. Billy Bishop was only seventeen years old when he decided to enlist in the Air Force. He made a positive impact on Canada during both of the world wars. Firstly, he was the top Canadian ace during the First World War. Secondly, he got people to join the Royal Canadian Air Force, and he promoted the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan during World War II. And third, after World War I, he lectured across North America to tell people about his wartime experiences. This helped Canada because helping defeat the German air force helped not only the Canadian air force, but also the soldiers on the ground and in the trenches. For example, German planes could’ve dropped bombs from their own planes into our trenches. This could’ve resulted in the loss of the triple entrance. Billy Bishop was also given a lot of awards for his bravery during the war, causing him to gain the attention of the public eye. Another quote from the Canadian Encyclopedia states, “This feat earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross, which he was awarded on 3 August 1918.” (de Bruin et al., n.d.) When he gained the public eye, he also became kind of an inspiration for many people. Therefore, Billy Bishop shooting down the most German planes out of any Canadian helped the Triple Entente take Germany and the Triple Alliance down. Another reason why Billy Bishop made a positive impact on Canada is that during the Second World War, he helped recruit more Canadian soldiers to join the Royal Canadian Air
