As part of my SLE, this document will provide basic information about my chosen agency, the role of the social worker at the agency and, it will serve to clarify my top learning objectives during this project. Kindred Hospice is a division of Kindred health care.
“King of the Bingo Game” is a short story by the 20th century American writer Ralph Ellison. The story is set somewhere in the northern part of the United States. In the short story King of the Bingo Game by Ralph Ellison, the narrator is at a movie theater and waiting to play the bingo game that follows right after the movie ends. He is looking for a way to get money for his wife Laura for she is about to die and they have no money for a doctor; he cannot get a job since he does not have a birth certificate. He has not eaten and has not slept and just wants to get the bingo game over with. In the South, it is normal for strangers to share their food, but since he moved North Carolina, people would think he is crazy. In order to win the money, the person must get bingo on the game, spin the wheel, and get a double zero, luckily, that is exactly what happens to the narrator up until the moment of the
The elderlies are people who have enough problems and things to worry about in their life’s and would not like to have more, putting up with us volunteers. The Valley Grande Manor is at 1212 South Bridge Avenue Weslaco, TX it is a place for elderly who have no family or anybody else to take care of them. I started to volunteer there for my class English 1302, as a project for my future, to gather data on how these nurses take care of them. When I first applied to volunteer they were so many elderly it remind me of many horror movies because it was wheelchairs, needles, and a big empty old cafeteria that was clean, but not remodeled. It was not comfortable until I talked to this man sitting alone before entering the main building of the nursing
“No, wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread” (Abbey 1971). Edward Abbey was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on January 19th of 1927. At the age of 17, Abbey left his home to make his way across America where he found his love for nature and specifically, the desert. Abbey was a seasonal park ranger at Arches National Monument, where he got the inspiration for his best-seller, Desert Solitaire. Abbey writes about living alone in the desert, to escape the cultures in today’s society.
I saw one program that gave out gently used suits to homeless people to wear for job interviews, and I would like to incorporate that idea in. This building would serve as a place where veterans could come and get a home cooked meal made by volunteers and be able to sit down and have a conversation with other veterans who know what they’re going through.
Throughout centuries, traditions and rituals have had the ability to control one’s behavior. In Shirley Jackson’s, “The Lottery”, she tells the reader of a small village. On the surface, this community may seem relatively normal. However, despite the picturesque appeal, this falsely serene village has a distinct deceitful flaw. On June 27th, every year, a lottery takes place.
Traditions have been sought after and passed on for generations; with no questions asked, whether humane or not, traditions are hard to break and diminish as they are often what a culture or community stands for. In Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”, a story about the tradition of a small village, is painted in impeccable details of peace, and serenity on a warm summer day, as everyone follows the tradition they have known since a long time ago despite the true intentions and meaning of it forgotten. The Lottery taking place annually is like no other lottery, it paints the true picture of the horror that epitomizes the tradition that none of the villagers dare to question, despite it creating separation between gender and families and ruining
In the presentation, his overall appearance was a formal one. He wore a formal coat with a decent blue color. Though, his pants were not of the same color but still matched the personality. The combination of light blue shirt and dark blue coat appealed the audience, at least me. His formal yet trendy glasses were also a plus

Prior to beginning this volunteer experience, I believed that I had a number of personal attributes and skills that fit this role such as having the necessary education about people, specifically older people if to work with elderly. As part of my college course, I have studied and learned about the development of people from conception to death, including how elderly people may act, think and perceive. All the knowledge I’ve attained from the lectures definitely came in handy whilst working in the nursing home. The ability to deal with mental illness properly is important when working in nursing homes as many people in nursing homes are there due to some kind of mental illness such as dementia and Alzheimer’s etc. Personal skills such as compassion, patience, being helpful, motivated, having good communication skills and being a good listener too.
The clothes you wear reflect your personality as it speaks much about who you are and how you do business. It shows that you are confident, bold and gives impression that you are on top of the game because you know exactly what you are about.
