Biofuel: Should The United States Dependency On Foreign Oil

963 Words4 Pages

Do you think the sun, wind, and corn can save our economy? Pro-quest staff reports the United States gets a majority of oil imported from their countries which can be a point of concern in fuel cost. The United States has the option on being independent which would allow us to control and help regulate the pricing and usage better (proquest staff). This paper will examine the pro, con, and my view point on whether biofuel is the best way to reduce United States dependency on foreign oil. To begin with, is biofuel the best way to reduce United States dependency on foreign oil? First of all, biofuel offers a lot of benefits. Anne Steckel, reporter for Roll Call Newspaper states that biofuel creates 90% less emissions than petroleum fuel (Steckel). …show more content…

Steckel believes that the United States can manufacture its own biofuel, reducing our need for foreign oil (Steckel). Next, biofuel improves the United States job force by making more jobs available and which intern helps the economy it is also safe to use in every day vehicles. Bob Dinneen, C.E.O. of Renewable Fuel Association, points out that all but 21 states the biofuel industry has created 365,00 jobs in the United States (Dinneen). Dinneen adds that the United States dependence on foreign oil has changed from 60% to 40% from when it was enacted in 2005 (Dinneen). Dinneen notes that biofuel improves engine performance and is safe to use in cars and has been for years (Dinneen). A final reason, for decades United States presidents have promoted the idea of energy independence improves American security. Gerald R. Ford, United States President pontificated that as far back as 1975, President Ford pontificated that the United …show more content…

Furthermore, biofuel is a good thing but is not the greatest thing. Barack Obama, United States President implies that biofuel will help us cut back so that America does not need as much foreign oil (Mufason). Bob Dinneen, C.E.O of Renewable Fuel Association writes that biofuel saves drivers over 1,200 dollars a year because it cost less (Dinneen). Obama believes that the use of biofuel helps prevent oil spills from happening again like the one in the Gulf of Mexico (Mufason). For instances, wind energy could also help with our energy crisis. Mathias Aarre Maehul, writer for Energy Information claims that wind power has opportunity to power 20 times more than the human race needs (Maehul). Maehul confirms wind power is created by the nuclear fusion process in the sun so there is no way for us to run out (Maehul). Maehul points out that 600 average United States homes can be power by a single large turbine (Maehul). Conserve Energy Future, Energy Conservation site notes that we can use solar energy as long as we have the sun (C.E.F.). Conserve Energy Future declares solar panels can be put on roof tops so that space is not an issue (C.E.F.). Conserve Energy Future asserts solar panels are silent where other energy collectors may make noise (C.E.F). As you can see, there are many ways to help solve our energy
