It was 2008 in the heat of summer and I was fishing with my uncle and cousin. We had a little beater boat from 1968, but that was all we needed. We were catching a lot of bass, but they were all small. I was getting a little sad about our luck when my cousin hooked into a big bass. He was only 6 years old and couldn’t reel it in so he handed me the pole. I reeled it up to the boat and it was the biggest bass I have seen in my life! Right as I lifted it up to get it into the boat the line snapped, and got away. Right at that moment I was determined to catch a 5 pound bass. I was going to find out what the bass do and why they do it, so I could have a better chance at meeting my goal. It has changed a ton over the years to help people get the most bites. Bass fishing used to be extremely hard for people in the early 1900’s. Bass are very cautious and won’t bite if it don’t look real. Back then people had made their own baits, or used natural baits that didn’t get them many bites. This day in age there are tourneys, which has stirred interest in bass fishing as a sport, the bass has become America's favorite gamefish. The professional anglers have their secret ways to get their bites. Much of all 49 state fishing budgets goes to the propagation of this species. Alaska is probably the only state not inhabited by bass. This is likely, as I have observed many times, because the bass is too smart to live where it would have to wear mukluks and long underwear.
