Define tolerance and explain the biological adaptations that lead to tolerance. (In other words, what is going on with levels of neurotransmitters and brain cell receptors? Be sure to specific the neurotransmitter in question.) Tolerance is when a person using a substance has to increase that amount that they are taking or consuming because their body has become used to the lower doses that they were taking originally and they are not getting the same effects from the substance.
