Bipolar Disorder is a serious problem in the world, but it has especially been a prominent problem in the United States. Bipolar Disorder is becoming more and more of an issue that is affecting teenagers and young adults. The majority of people that suffer from Bipolar disorder are those in high school/college and can cause many complications in people’s lives. Researchers are currently trying to find a way to resolve this disorder and make it easier for the people who have it. Present-day, there has been some therapies and medications to help this disorder. Racial or ethnic groups do not matter when it comes to Bipolar disorder. Both men and women can get this disorder too; however, women tend to have cycles more often than men ("Bipolar Disorder," 2022, p. 136). Furthermore, many people get this disorder from their own families. Genetics have a huge play in Bipolar disorder and who gets it. If one of the parents has the disorder, it may have come from one of the relatives of that parent. If two parents have the disorder then there is more of a risk of the child also having the disorder when they get older ("Bipolar Disorder," 2022, p. 136). This means that it is important for people to make sure they take medication or go through therapy. Although depression and mania happen often, without any medication their lives can be life threatening and harmful (Basile et al., 2022, p. 254). People are still looking out for a cure but this is working well and people with Bipolar disorder still should take the medication that is already out. It has helped the vast population already. There are different types of types of cycles. Four or more episodes in a year is called rapid cycling. This means that many episodes are happening in a short amount of time and this is very extreme. Another form of Bipolar disorder, that is way less crucial, is called cyclothymic disorder, which lasts for around 2 years. (Basile et al., 2022, p. 250).
