Birds Eye Food was started in August 1938 by Robert Ducas, who was the chairman of an engineering company called Winget Ltd. The food company was also owned by Robert Ducas, General Foods Corps., and Chivers and Sons Ltd, which was a British jam producer. Birds Eye Foods was eventually acquired by Unilever in March 1943. In the middle of the 1950s and 60s, Bird Eye was responsible for 60% of UK frozen food sales.
