By the end of the 1400s, many European ships left Europe to explore the world. This exploration could have been initiated by various events that occurred previously. Starting with the first event, the Black Death, in the 1300s, which caused the decline of the feudal system and lead to the rise of the Renaissance era, a period of time when people were craving for more knowledge in topics such as philosophy, anatomy, geography, etc. It was throughout this Renaissance period and because of new inventions such as the printing press that could have caused people to want to explore and expand their knowledge about the geography of the earth. The Dutch and other European people living in New Amsterdam wanted to convert Native Americans such as the Lenni Lenape, to Christianity. Also, what caused the relationship between this tribe and the Dutch to be ruin was in, “February 25, 1643 became a turning point in the amount of trust encumbered in the colonists when Dutch soldiers invaded the Lenni Lenape village and killed hundreds of men, women, and children”(Relationship With Native Americans). “Owning land was extremely important to the European settlers … meant that a person had great wealth and political power”(VOA). On the other side, the native population, “believed that no one could own land … that anyone could use it … [and that if one] wanted to live on a piece of land and grow crops [one] could do so”(VOA).
