Protest in the Arts has been very profound throughout history to perceive a greater meaning. Art is a very good way to bring a powerful message across in a very deliberate and meaningful way. This has been proven numerous times throughout many documentaries, Ted talks, and articles. An example of how art was used to protest for a greater purpose of equality for African Americans was when Bubba Wallace wrapped his car in “Black Lives Matter” protest symbols as an act of protest. As shown in the PowerPoint in class by Mr. Csorba, there was an example of Colin Kaepernick taking a Knee at a sport stadium. A police officer put his knee on George Floyd’s neck during his arrest, despite him saying the words “I can’t breathe.” As a result, the protest movement sparked by this event has led to a continuous fight for equal rights for African Americans, in other terms, The Black Lives Matter Protest. While the main purpose for this movement is to gain rights for African Americans, they are not the only minority group that is involved with such protests. This can be seen all throughout the world with Protestors of all age, ethnicity, background, and motives that attend Black Lives Matter protests every single year. (Great Big Story) Despite their differences, a common ground is shared. Equality for blacks. The need for recognition is very important and crucial to achieving equality for African Americans in the United States. Millions of people across the world gather to seek justice. These protests have spread all the way to places such as New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Netherlands, Finland, and France. (Great Big Story) There is evidence of people ranging from kids to elders protesting in the Black Lives Matter movement in attempt to gain justice for African Americans. They are holding up custom signs that provide the media with knowledge as to what they are protesting for. The Black Lives Matter movement is so influential throughout the world that is has caused a variety of different races to participate in the movement despite their differences. White supremacy can be seen throughout time, routing back to the 1960s. Even though white supremacy exists, some White people still provide support in the protest movements of equal rights for African Americans because they understand how crucial it is to the democracy of our country.
