Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink presents a wide range of information about humans and the way we think. Gladwell’s book is organized into sections that each focus on a theme that is explained through different social science experiments, descriptions of notable people, or retellings of significant events in history. Each section explores human beings’ ability to think and process information, and many of these ideas are applicable to the rest of our lives.
One of the topic sentences that I picked was You can’t judge a person accurately based on their appearance alone. I personally have been in that situation where people would judge me just base on the way I look or what religion I may follow. Everyone has an idea of other people till they actually meet them. It can be a life changing and makes you look at things a whole lot different. Thin slicing, I got this evidence from the book Blink. I think it’s a perfect example of judging a person on their appearance. When the people voted for him, they didn’t know anything about him. They just thought he fit the part just based on the way he looked. Rumors, Before I even meet some people, I have my own thoughts about them, a base of what I’ve heard from other people about them. I’ve overcome my biases on rednecks, till I was in contact with them. At first, I thought they were all jackasses, and some are. But I’ve meet enough to know they are not all like that. Same thing with nerds I had my biases because they think they know it all, but I’ve come to realize that some of them ain’t so bad. In their own ways. But my biggest biases that I overcame was dogs. I had the biggest fear of dogs, to the point when I see one, I’d cross the street. But then one of my friends got a puppy, and as it got bigger, I was getting comfortable with it each time. Now I can pretty much be around any dog. And not have to cross the
