In this book. people judge others without really knowing their story and their life. There is a lot of inequality shown in this book and harper lee does a great job using symbols in her book. One of the symbols she uses is a Mockingbird and a blue jay. In my opinion, the mockingbird is a strong symbol of inequality.
The author might have used the mockingbird as a symbol of freedom and joy. The blue jay might be a symbol of evil. Because in this book the blacks relate to the mockingbird because they were innocent people that did nothing wrong and minded their own business. The whites were like the blue jays. In this book, the blacks are not really free and they are not treated the same as the others. You could also tell that they are not being treated equally by they place they lived shown in chapter 1of the book. The whites were richer and live in the nicer part of town, and the blacks live past the dump and their houses are not as nice and do not have a lot of money. The blacks are also treated differently and you could see that in the story by listening to how people talk to them and how people treated them in court. Blacks also have their own church and their own place to sit in court which was up on the balcony showed in chapter 12 and 15. That is the same thing that is happening today people are getting judged on how they look and people judge then and never get to know the real them. For example, in today’s world people are judging others by the way they dress and still the color of their skin. We can’t help judging others because we are all human and all humans do it.
