“Never in the field of human conflict has so much owed by so many to so few” (Churchill). Beginning with the Invasion of Poland World War Two was a war started by Adolf Hitler himself and later World War Two ended on D-Day.
World War Two was just about to start with a new leader in power.
Hitler as a soldier in World War One was ranked as a Lance Corporal in the Bavarian army, as a soldier Hitler had almost died. In 1917 Hitler was part of the Battle of Cambrai. A British soldier named Henry Tandey took part in this war and reported an encounter with Hitler. It was near the end of this battle that Tandey saw a wounded soldier who happened to be Hitler. Several years later in September 1939 Hitler ordered his men to take over Poland. The Germans broke through Northern Poland and lead the advance into Warsaw. The Germans had beaten Poland in just 26 days using a tactic that they had mastered, “Blitzkrieg” (Lightning War).
The “Blitzkrieg” was a very effective tactic used by the Germans in World War Two. It consisted of a gathering of offensive weapons such as tanks, planes, and artillery in a concentrated point (“Blitzkrieg (Lightning War”). With this force Germany would punch through enemy defences, then circle the opposing force, and win (“Blitzkrieg (Lightning War”). Unfortunately, for Hitler this tactic would come to a halt and Germany will be on the defensive.
In 1944 The Allies were preparing for an attack of the beaches of Normandy. General Eisenhower lead this attack. In the early morning of June 6 1944 the Allies moved 5000 ships 10000 planes and 176000 soldiers across the English Channel onto the beaches of Normandy, thus beginning the largest amphibious assault (Benson). Months after the fighting had begun the Allies had pushed the Germans back across France and Belgium (Benson).
