Blood in Stool
Blood in the stool is when there may be bleeding in a person’s digestive tract. Sometimes the amount of blood can be so small that it can only be detected by checking for hidden blood in the stool, which is known as a fecal occult test. Other times it may be visible on toilet tissue or in the toilet after a discharge of feces from the body as bright red blood. Bleeding that happens deeper in the digestive tract can make stool appear black.
Cause of Blood in Stool
Some of the causes for a person to develop this digestive system disorder is if they have diverticular disease, anal fissure, colitis, and esophageal problems. Diverticular disease is when a person has small pouches, called diverticula that projects from the colon wall.
