NITASHA AGRAWAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT In this summer assignment, on the topic of “EFFECT OF TIME AND SURFACE ON BLOOD SPATTER” in subject of forensic science , I place on record my thanks and gratitude to my mentor and guide DR. NITASHA AGRAWAL who supported me in conducting this experiment. Excellent advice and support of DR. NITASHA AGRAWAL, has been really invaluable on the academic level for which I am extremely grateful. DEEKSHA PANT INDEX CONTENTS : 1. Swipe: Formed when transfer of blood over a surface which is not contaminated with blood takes place. IMPORTANCE OF BLOOD SPATTER ANALYSIS Blood spatter analysis shows various aspects regarding crime scene which helps in reconstruction of crime scene. It tells us : 1. The origin of blood drop 2. Distance from origin to the impact 3. Direction of impact 4. Type of impact 5. No. of blows or shots 6. Position of victim and the offender at the time of blood shed 7. Movement of victim and offender during blood shed 8. Movement of victim and offender after blood shed 9. Impact angle DETERMINATION OF DIRECTIONALITY OF BLOOD STAINS: When a blood drop hits the surface perpendicularly then it will be CIRCULAR i.e, the length and the width of the blood drop will be same. When a blood drop hits the surface at an angle (90 degrees) then it will be ELONGATED or like a tear drop. DETERMINATION OF IMPACT ANGLE: Impact angle is the acute angle which is formed between the directional drop of blood and the plane of the surface it hits. By using the trigonometric function, it is useful and possible to find the angle of impact for any given drop of
