When investigating a murder, forensic scientists use a variety of methods to identify a killer. Most commonly, Forensic Scientists extract samples DNA from blood, semen or fingerprints to identify a killer, but there are more unique ways of solving a homicide. Footprints, psychology, analysis of skid marks and many more methods can be implemented to discover clues to solving a case. One that method that deems utter importance which is commonly overlooked is the study of bloodstain patterns. Bloodstain patterns can help identify a violent crime by drawing the conclusions about the nature, timing, methods used and significant details of the crime. When a murder is committed, most often blood is evident at the crime scene. It could be in a puddle, on the victim, near the victim, on walls or found in curious places. The job of a bloodstain pattern analysis is to implement the use of their scientific knowledge from the fields of chemistry, physics, math and biology to produce strong evidence of how the murder occured to help solve homicide cases. Finding out how the murder was committed can be vital in solving a case.
