Blossoming Through Forensics You know that kid in class, the one who sits in the back of the classroom, and barely ever contributes? That used to be me, before I joined Forensics. I was shy around new people and completely afraid to speak in front of the class. I would never volunteer, and when called on, you could hardly hear me. Being a part of Forensics really challenged me to find my voice, gave me the courage to make new friends, and the confidence to achieve my goals. My first year of Forensics, I was in a group because I was very nervous and shy. Working with others made me not as fearful because there was someone standing up next to me as I presented. I met a lot of new friends and I realized that working in a group made me focus more on what I had to do, because I didn’t want to let the people around me down. My piece was inspirational around the world, but most importantly, it inspired me. Malala Yousifzai’s speech about women’s rights for education made me realize how lucky I am, and made me feel empowered to spread her positive message to the people around me, with confidence. With each meet I improved, and by the fourth meet, I had earned a place at the state competition. Through presenting individually, I discovered a passion for expressing myself, in all areas of my life.
