Principles of Public Speaking
Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people. – Spencer Johnson.

Though all speeches should be based on a foundation of trust and honesty, the integrity of any message is only as good as the person sending it. For example, when watching the news, I often find myself wondering if the person speaking is telling the truth. Unfortunately, due to peoples need for drama, and networks need for ratings, news casters now play an acting role and what people perceive as the truth is just a means to make money. Gone are the days of being able to rely on what the news tells you. Now you must go in search of the truth and that task gets harder every day. It’s sad to think that Satire shows like The Daily Show, have more truth to them than Fox News. This kind of speech is very hurtful and leaves people with the feeling of fear and uncertainty. Unfortunately, many people use dishonesty and coercion in their speeches to steer people in the wrong direction. We owe it to the people we communicate with on a daily basis to be truthful. By doing so, you are not only letting people know that as a person you are credible, but you also feel much better about yourself. Lies and deceit always come back to haunt you. Its best to be honest in every situation. It sounds a bit scary, but it’s freeing. If you stick to this advice, you will feel good about yourself, as well others.
