What does actually symbolize “coming of age” in Bobby’s life? Do these symbols tell whether he is going to grow up and be a good father? Is he actually going to “come of age” or is he going to act younger than he is? The three most important symbols are the red balloon, the wall/ street paint, and basketball. The red balloon is a symbol of ‘coming of age’ because he is now going to be a father. The wall paint/ street paint because when he wall paints he gets into trouble. Basketball is the last main symbol because it represents childhood and responsibilities. The red balloon is a symbol of ‘coming of age’ because he is now going to be a father. Whether he is going to keep it, he still has to take care of Nia while she is carrying the baby. This symbol is a great example because it will show if Bobby is actually going to step up and be a good father and man! It symbolizes his girlfriend being pregnant and having a baby. To be a good father/ grown man Bobby will have to “act his own age.” Bobby just turned 16, but he acts like he is younger, only because he still wants to play in arcades, spray paint, hang out with friends, get in trouble, etc. So, the red balloon symbolizes “Coming of age,” because it`s going to show whether Bobby is actually going to step up and be a man and good father! …show more content…

Also others need to know if he’s going to stop and be a good guy or if he’s going to continuously get into trouble over stupid stuff. Also because wall paint is normally used to symbolize bad things including gangs, feelings, etc. Just know if Bobby keeps doing these things he is going to get into even more trouble and he might end up getting locked up or sent to juvenile detention/ boy school. So, wall/ street paint is another symbol that represents “Coming of age,” because it gets people into trouble/ it’s vandalizing
