Many people would view an overweight person not to be athletic or strong when in fact he or she could be quite the opposite. Likewise, many people view a muscular and toned person as to being fit and strong, but that is not always the case. A vast majority might assume the sport of bodybuilding and powerlifting are the same, as both involve moving heavy iron, but it so happens that the purposes of each sport are complete parallels. Many of the same guidelines and blueprints can be found within each sport, yet the way the individual goals are met vary greatly. A bodybuilder must track there macros and make sure they are getting enough calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fats in order for them to build muscle while limiting the amount of fat they gain. Nutrition is a key aspect in bodybuilding due to 50% of the equation being done at the gym, yet the other 50% is done in the kitchen and the way your diet is maintained. In contrast, powerlifter’s are hardly concerned with tracking their macros and eating clean due to the fact that they are not concerned with their body appearance as their main goal. In addition to diet there are various supplements that are implemented in a bodybuilder’s daily life such as a protein powder and Creatine. These two supplements can be found in a majority of bodybuilder’s nutrition plans. As we know, the key ingredient for muscle growth is protein, and a fast digesting protein powder consumed after workouts can “increase protein synthesis and to improve muscle recovery and restoration” (Stewart) which will ultimately lead to muscle mass and growth. Another key supplement usually found within the bodybuilding community is Creatine, which is a natural occurring substance found within our bodies. Whether it be bodybuilding or powerlifting, both sports involve tearing down muscle fibers which can only be repaired during sleep. Sleep is the building block to growth and strength as the tore down muscle fibers are repaired bigger and stronger during sleep. An average person needs 8 hours of sleep each night in order for the body to run efficiently. Both of these sports require sleep to maintain the overall goal and without enough sleep “The body stops producing anabolic hormones (muscle producing hormones) and starts increasing the production of catabolic hormones (muscle destroying hormones)” (Villepigue) which will eventually lead to loss of mass and
