The book is set in New York City in two areas known as “East egg” and the “West Egg”. The time period was in the roaring twenties after World War 1. The importance of the setting is that this was in the twenties so there was definitely a social class difference and also female dependence on men. The West Egg and East Egg are the most important places because they symbolize old wealth (which is Daisy and Tom) and new (which is Gatsby). It shows differences with society and people and how Daisy and Jay were in different worlds. Nick Carraway moves to New York City to learn about bound business. Daisy and Tom introduce Nick to a beautiful woman by the name of Jordan Baker whom Nick starts a romantic relationship. Nick finally gets invited to one of the Gatsby's parties and bring Jordan Baker with him. Jordan and the Gatsby speak alone this is when Nick starts to know things about his neighbor for instance that the Gatsby has always like Nick's cousin Daisy. They meet for tea (Daisy not knowing that either one will be there) and rekindle their love and start having an affair.
