The Killer Angels Review Michael Shaara was born in June 23, 1929. He was raised by a southern mother and had roots back to Thomas Jefferson. Michael was a teacher at Florida State University and taught a writing class there. He wrote multiple books but The Killer Angels was definitely one of his most successful books he wrote. The Killer Angels tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg. On July 1, 1863, the Confederate army, and the Union army, fought the largest battle of the American Civil War. When the battle ended, 51,000 men were dead, wounded, or missing. In The Killer angels the main characters are General Robert E. Lee, General James Longstreet, and Colonel Joshua L. Chamberlain. Lee and Longstreet are both fighting for the South while Chamberlain is fighting for the North. In the book it shows the different points of view that the confederates had on the war and the view the Union had on the war. The two armies run into each other at Gettysburg and had a 3 day long war. He takes the news the Southern generals and they don’t believe him at first. Later in the book it talks about Chamberlain and how he knows whatever he does could get his brother tom killed because he is one of his soldiers. So he sends his brother to a different regiment because it makes him feel week knowing he could Couse his brother’s death. A good majority of this book is about strategy and exactly what to do in battle.
