The Killer Angels, by Michael Shaara, is a riveting and masterly crafted novel that provides multiple inside perspectives of the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. The book can easily be read and comprehended by teenagers. Shaara uses many different methods that can keep high school students engaged in the book and also highlight many aspects of wars they might not have previously known. Shaara includes perspectives of multiple different generals, colonels, and soldiers fighting on both sides of the wars. The book stays engaging because readers are provided with the inside thoughts of the different generals which helps readers learn why the decisions during the battle were made and also makes the characters more relatable and real.
