Jordan Mclane Mr. Dittmar American History Book Report The title of my book is The Killer Angels. The author is Michael Shaara. This book takes place in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The time this book takes place in is June 29 through July 3, 1863. The Killer Angels was a book based on The Battle of Gettysburg. The Battle of Gettysburg was a battle that lasted three days. The Battle of Gettysburg is named what it is named because the north won because the names were often what the victor called the battle and the north named battles by nearest town and the south named them after geological landmarks. There are multiple main characters in this book. The main characters in this book are General Robert E. Lee or in the book referenced as Bob Lee, General Longstreet and also Colonel Chamberlain. All of these main characters were introduced in the forward section of the book. General Lee was five foot six inches tall, he was short legged and he and General Longstreet both did not drink which the Englishman thought was strange that they did not drink. Longstreet was General Lee’s second in command since Jackson died and believed in fighting a defensive war. Chamberlain was a man who did not believe in shooting his own men. The first two days of the battle were fought mostly on the flanks of the union army and on the left flank was Chamberlin. He was the reason that the union had not been obliterated the second day so as a reward he was moved to the middle of the army where it was believed to be safe and there was supposed to be little or no fighting. Ironically that was where all the fighting was the last day. General lee thought that since he had attacked the flank the previous day that he would concentrate most of his forces on the middle which was very costly.
