Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a psychological condition where an individual who is affected by it, will experience long-term patterns of instability in their behavior. These individuals go through intense episodes of emotions. They are likely to experience intense emotions to lower levels of stress. Their turbulent emotions are very likely to negatively impact their relationships with the people who are surrounding them. Individuals who have a borderline personality disorder have to encounter numerous of challenges daily for a long period of time. When they become involved in a romantic relationship, due to their intense fear of abandonment, they will likely alternate from consistent clinging to distancing behaviors. It can create a toxic environment for both partners. In order to prevent their partners to leave them, the individual with a borderline personality disorder is likely to make self-mutilation threats such as committing suicide if the significant other leaves. This causes their significant other to feel as if they need to tiptoe around the partner who has BPD in order to not upset them. The person with a borderline personality disorder may look for any confirmation that they are the victim in a situation and may blame any unfortunate situations on their loved ones. This may cause their loved ones to feel guilty even if it isn’t their fault. Due to their unstable self-image or sense of self, they are likely to experience severe dissociative symptoms. The choice of treatment can affect these individuals negatively. They may continue their behaviors. There may be times where one is encouraged to talk about their past in therapy in order to identify behaviors or patterns. When individuals with borderline personality disorder talk about their past, they are at a higher risk to create false memories. (Hatim, 2008) They need to acquire knowledge on how to manage situations in the present instead of the past. When individuals with a borderline personality become parents, they can become very unpredictable. Children need consistency and guidance growing up. According to Psychology Today, if their parents have a borderline personality disorder, they may fail to provide what the child may need. The parent with a borderline personality disorder can act normal and rapidly shift into an episode. They are likely to hurt their children in the process without meaning to. In the end, children raised by them tend to end up needing to nurture their parents with BPD in order to maintain any
