Boudicca, Queen of the first century A.D. Iceni tribe, led a perilous revolt against Emperor Nero’s expansive Roman policy in Britannia after widespread resentment of Roman rule. The Island of Britannia had continually been in the sights of the Romans since the days of the Roman Republic under Caesar. It wasn’t until 43 AD, under the rule of Claudius, that the state was able to make and sustain significant gains in the region. When Britannia was originally invaded pursuant to the orders of Julius Caesar in 54 BC, the Iceni were one of six local tribes that entered into a allegiance.
