In 2009, the American Psychological Association (APA) created the Task Force on Gender Identity and Gender Variance (TFGIGV), who created guidelines for Psychological Practice with TGNC and Gender Nonconforming people. The task force discovered that health care professionals and psychologists were not properly trained to treat the TGNC population. The deficiency was a lack of training and trans-affirmative care for the community. The consensus of the task force was that this was harming TGNC people and their families. The TFGIGV concluded that the above mentioned guidelines be published to assist psychologists in effectively treating TGNC people; provide effective services; and avoid doing more harm than good with treatment (American Psychological …show more content…

Brandon Teena was a FTM, who began living as a male in adolescence, and dating a girl from school. During some legal trouble, it was reported in the newspaper that Brandon was actually female. During the Christmas holiday, a group of people took Brandon to a field and demanded he prove his gender. The incident escalated into the rape and murder of Brandon Teena. • “Boy Meets Girl”, a 2014 film, is a romantic comedy that explores a nontraditional love affair. The actors learn what it means to be okay with loving who you choose to love. The film does a very good job of analyzing those questioning their identity. Documentary.
