The article written by Susie O’Brien uses language that convinces readers that teaching children of gender and sexuality is unnecessary and improper. O’Brien considers children to be “too young to discuss gender fluidity...and spend class time challenging cisgenderism”. These thoughts can impact what a nation believes, and may leave an impression that will rescind all that this country has done to advance. O’Brien construes that “[talking] with children, families and carers about gender, identity and sexuality” is a joke. She asks, “since when has it been the job of educators to take on that role?”.
It 's an argument that can be easily be refuted. I think what the author tries to do with this essay was to send information and possibly change people 's ideas of the speech codes. I would say his essay is weak simply because he would have statements that did not have support like in paragraph 8, Posner was talking how the universities adopted speech and sex codes “because that’s what most students want” he would just leave the statement hanging, without making it clear. Also, I just don’t think his argument got many people 's agreement because he kept saying that These "children" still need to be
Sports have always been a male dominate sport, especially in schools. It took many years of schooling and fighting for females to be able to participate in sports and have equal education opportunities. “The passage of Title IX, the 1972 Education Amendments to the Civil Rights Act, expanded high school athletic opportunities to include girls, revolutionizing mass sports participation in the United States (Rammell, 2014, pg. 136).” Since the legislation, Title IX was passed, sports offerings for boys and girls has changed. Title IX has created many opportunities for girls and young women today since it began 40 years ago.
Lilly Singh is a Canadian-Indian Youtuber, writer, television host, actress, and comedian who rose to fame after creating youtube videos in 2010 under the name Superwoman/ IISuperwomanII. In 2022 Singh delivered a Ted Talk titled “A Seat at the Table” Isn't the Solution for Gender Equity. Singh discusses that in order to achieve gender equality and a more inclusive society we need to create tables where women can voice their opinion and concerns, while being valued and empowered. She began by telling a personal story of being born a female and highlighting the deep-rooted biases and expectations of women prevalent in society. Paterson read a book called The Paper Bag Princess to the students and asked them why the princess was always the one captured. The children responded in a predictable way by saying that she had to be captured in order for the prince to save and marry her. She expressed her worry about children who felt differently about the social norm of heterosexuality. “It’s really important to create inclusive learning environments for everyone in the school so that those voices aren’t being lost.” (Paterson) Everyone has a right to education and part of that right is to feel included and to no be criticized by any reason.
In this course, we discussed many of the underlying questions in research: what is truth, and can it be attained? Can research ever be truly objective? How do our underlying biases shape our research, and how do we deal with this? The majority of these questions lack a definitive answer, as do most research topics, but by discussing somewhat philosophical inquiries weekly, I feel as though I gained a new perspective on my future career in mathematics, particularly statistics. Equality in America America and its people have worked hard to create a home in which everyone is treated, and feels equal. We’ve fought wars, held protests, and lost many lives in situations where we were fighting for fair treatment. After all of these sacrifices, it's safe to say that Americans have the right to love, and cherish the equality that their home presents them with, but to an extent. Equality in society, government, and basic human interactions should always be kept, and held with great importance. However, we also need to keep in mind that we are not the same people.
Gender roles play an important role in A Raisin in the Sun. During the time A Raisin in the Sun was written the idea of set in stone positions in a household and society were common. Women were supposed to do house jobs, keep their mouths shut, and support their husbands’ decisions and men were seen as the headman or boss. A Raisin in the Sun shows readers a window into the world where those gender roles have a twist on them. Women in the time of A Raisin in the Sun were supposed to be subservient to men.
In one classroom, each of the walls are covered with cheetah and zebra stripes, and a poster hangs on the wall saying “Act Pretty at all Times.” In the classroom next door, the walls are covered with photos of race cars, football players, and sports teams, and a poster behind the teacher’s desk says “Coaches Corner.” During 2006, Margaret Spelling, Education Secretary, gradually allowed the idea of single sex education, a form of education in which boys and girls are separated by gender based upon the differences of how they learn and behave. Since then, more and more school districts around the world have been open to the idea of single sex education and have begun converting to single sex schools and classes. People in favor of this form of education claim that teachers are able to use teaching techniques suited to the gender they teach and teachers are able to educate their gender in an individual way to expand the students success.
In our advanced 21st century, it is hard to imagine our society as anything short of perfect. After all, we have come a long way from our seafaring ancestors. However, the reality is that despite how we may sometimes avoid seeing it, our society is anything but perfect. A very prevalent issue today is that despite laws being set in place to enforce the equal treatment of men and women, women all over the world today still face poor treatment and discrimination. Because of how deep and long this problem has run, revising discriminatory laws may not abolish discrimination and legislating laws that endorse gender equality may not necessarily create equality.
It is important for teachers to create an environment that promotes fairness in order for students to succeed. Equality and equity are both needed to do this. Equality in a class means every student has the same opportunity to succeed. Making accommodations for students is called equity. This is needed in a class to ensure an equal opportunity to succeed is possible for every student.
Single-Gender Schools Should not be Tolerated in this Day and Age. Single gender schools affects are gender stereotyping, inability to work with the opposite gender, and inhabits opportunities for the different genders to learn from each other (Elliot, 2016). Although single-gender schools have benefits it might not be from differing the genders (Ancheta , 2018). Research also shows no evidence that single gender schools boost in achievement. Co-ed schools allow for kids interact with the other gender and learn from them.
