“Chains” is a book that follows the journey of a 13 year old african american girl named Isabel and her younger sister Ruth, the book follows the genre of historical fiction and it was written by Laurie Halse Anderson. One of many characters in this book that continue to carry the theme of bravery is Isabel she demonstrates this because she does everything her master wants her to do, she takes big risks which could get her in big trouble, and during all of this mess she still takes care of her little sister Ruth.
