Another interesting bribery case took place in 2012 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). FBI published a press release on June 20, 2012 and December 19, 2012, from the Northern District of Georgia, where they came across bribery and extortion case that was issued against Fidelis Ogbu, a former engineering supervisor, and Neacacha Joyner, former construction inspector, of the DeKalb County Department of Public Works. Press release dated June 20, 2012 was released in regards to Mr. Ogbu, where press release dated December 19, 2012 was for Ms. Joyner. This case was investigated by special agents of the FBI. Mr. Ogbu and Ms. Joyner violated the law and public’s trust by extorting money. In September 2010, Mr. Ogbu was supervising a project to construct sidewalks near the intersection of S. Hairson Road and Wesley Chapel Road, Georgia, in which the project ‘s total bid was more than $1.4 million. Joyner put a stop to the project by not allowing the contractors to continue working on site. When the contractor questioned Ms. Joyner for her actions, she demanded to be paid off if they wished to continue working on the project. The contractor agreed to her demands by paying her in installments. From April 2011 to May 2011, Ms. Joyner received a total of $6,500 as bribe payment from the contractor. Then on June 8, 2011, Ms. Joyner demanded another $3,000, instructing the contractor to send a fraudulent bill to DeKalb County in the amount of $3,000 and to pay her the invoiced amount directly.
