Tom Stoppard once said “Maturity is a high price to pay for growing up” (Stoppard). The transition from childhood to adulthood comes with many challenges. “On the Bridge” by Todd Strasser is a coming of age short story which highlights how in order to mature, one must go through challenges. It follows two young boys named Seth and Adam. The transition from ignorance to knowledge, idealism to realism, and thinking of self to thinking of others happens once struggle occurs in between.
This students’ tale is one that embodies what diversity at Rutgers means, his story is something so unique that I believe it can only be found here. The diversity of Rutgers University, has made my experience at Rutgers exciting, prompting me to interact with people that I previously may have been too shy to interact with. The diversity of the campus, students, and staff make Rutgers a comfortable place to live as there will always be at least one person that matches your interest here, whether it is playing Pokemon Go, Kendama, or even just Underwater Basket Weaving. One thing that I am most looking forward to about college is being in an Honor’s program. I have always been one to challenge myself with advanced curriculum. I jump at every opportunity to take an advanced or Honors course at my school. I have been taking advanced classes since the seventh grade. I enjoy taking honors courses because they allow me to use my strengths and abilities at a higher and more advanced level.
Why do you want to participate in the Bridges Summer Program? Participating in the Bridges Summer Program will help me greatly in the transition between high school and college. Reading about the program I have learned that this program is meant to help students transition to a college-level work environment and I know that I need this type of help. The good thing about this program is that they help students individually and this way students will have a better chance at really being prepared to start college in the fall.
This program membership will open new doors for me and make my high school and college experiences so much smoother. Holding a diploma in my hands and going to college has been one of my dearest dreams; I have always believed in reaching my maximum potential and dreamed numerous times of being able to go to medical school, study, help and lead my community through the medical field. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to become a doctor, I have always been amazed and feel an immense interest in learning specifically about biology and medicine; I feel a serious motivation towards understanding how the human body works; each organ, tissue and every cell interests me; I desire to learn and understand how the diseases manifest, how to diagnose and master each technique to treat them;I am extremely committed to my education and to reaching my goal which is to become a doctor.
