In chapter 14 Lowry wrote, “Sideways, spinning, the sled hit a bump in the hill and Jonas was jarred loose and thrown violently into the air. He fell with his leg twisted under him, and could hear the crack of a bone”(108). One time when he experienced mental pain was, “Overwhelmed by pain, he lay there in the fearsome stench for hours, listened to the men and animals die, and learned what warfare meant”(120). This is extremely brave and courageous of him because he is only 12 and he is going through these dreadful things that not even adults in the community knew what the words meant let alone experience
The memories that Jonas is exposed to cause him to wish to escape his “perfect” community that has been kept the same for years. Once Jonas experiences these true emotions, he realizes that the feelings expressed in his society are nowhere near the level of depth that true feelings possess, thus reinforcing the theme. “But now Jonas had experienced real sadness... He knew that there was no quick comfort for emotions like those. These were deeper and they did not need to be told.
(TS): Throughout the entire book the one thing that Jonas wants is relationships, he goes through many different ones in the book, but in the end the reason for everything is based around Jonas 's desire to have somebody to be with. (MIP-1) Jonas is happy with his world because he believes that he has the relationships that he wants, so he listens to the government so he can keep these relationships. (MIP-2) Jonas begins to question the government and moves on to questioning his relationships. (MIP-3) Jonas is rejecting his world and abandoning his meaningless relationships in order to get
In the end of chapter 22, it said, “He wept because he was afraid now that he could not save Gabriel, he no longer cared about himself.” (Lowry 218). This piece of evidence shows that Jonas, had he not been trying his hardest to keep Gabriel alive, would have been fine with dying due to the fact he didn’t care about his life or what happened to him. The only thing keeping him alive was his reliance on the fact that Gabe needed him which proves that he relies on Gabe just to keep surviving. In addition there were multiple other quotes proving this such as , “The Giver hugged him.
This ending is more powerful than the ending in the movie because it creates suspense by leaving us with a cliffhanger. We don’t know what happens to Jonas and this is more powerful than a happy ending. In the movie, Jonas goes down the hill on a sled and hears music, like in the book. Then we see him stand up and walk towards the house and the movie ends just as he reaches the house.
He is invigorated by the experience, and is later given the memory of a family at Christmas, the room full of love and joy. The end of the book, Jonas climbs a steep hill, and finds a sled. He rides the sled down the other side of the hill, and the book ends vaguely describing “[the] joy that below, ahead, they were waiting for him” (178). This was intentionally vague, letting the reader have their own ending. This means that many ending are the canon ending at the same time, one of which is that the joy and people waiting for him were the people and emotions in the memory of Christmas.
Furthermore, it is almost medically impossible for the boys to have survived to see Elsewhere. Additionally, the novel ends with this quote, “... he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.” Jonas is definitely hallucinating
Pow. You’re hit again. [...] In his mind, Jonas saw the face of the boy who had lain dying on the field and had begged him
Jonas knows things and he can't tell anyone about them. Jonas has to deal with the pain that comes from the memories. According to the novel “The Giver”on page 104 it says, “Limping, Jonas walked home, pushing his bicycle , the evening. The sunburn pain had been so small, in comparison, and had not stayed with him. But this ache lingered.
Therefore, Jonas and Gabriel circled back around to their community and survived. At the end of the book “The Giver” Jonas and Gabe circled around back to his community and Jonas started to gather his memories again. When Jonas and Gabe reached the top of the hill and Jonas saw a sled and slid down, it was just like his memory the giver gave him. In the book when Rosemary asked for release her memories she received went to the people so when Jonas left, his memories went to the people and when he circled around and started to gather them again.
Jonas felt anger for his father and the pain he feels for the baby twin. On page 168 in the giver,Jonas realized that they been playing a game of war ( Lowry). Jonas feel sad and misunderstood for the boy in war. Jonas sadly understood that no one know what he is feeling. These are like real life because some careless people don 't think about others and think that everything is just a joke.
Even so if it was one of the childrens from insied why didnt he ride the sled to the house and run down this hill? But that isnt even the biggining of it cuase I think Jonas didnt even make up the hill in the first place. Let me explain in the book Jonas pasifictly said “He was not warmer; if anything he felt more cold.” and things like “He was not less exhausted; on the contrary, his steps were leaden, and
He is under sameness and the influence of the community. Jonas is chosen to receive feelings, colors, and emotions from memories. As time goes by Jonas sees the community not as a utopia but a horrible place. Jonas wants to change
Wrong word, Jonas thought. Frightened meant that deep, sickening feeling of something terrible about to happen. “ Lois Lowry chose to end the novel when we expected her to tell us what happened to Gabriel and Jonas. The ending was quite unexpected and unpredictable. By using an open-ended plot the author makes the reader reflect on the possible endings of the story.
Jonas thought that after they received their assignments, him and Asher, his best friend, he thought that they would grow apart and no longer be friends. Throughout the beginning of the book, Jonas kept worrying about how they might grow apart from each other. In the book Jonas thought to himself “...but what would become of me and Asher and the assignments we received”. Jonas did not want them to grow apart because they have been best friends since they were little. This was hard for him because he didn't know what would become of them and what would become of them.
