I really enjoyed reading the book “Mindless Eating”. I was expecting a book that would be a struggle to read and not interesting at all. That was not the case. I found this book very interesting and would recommend it to anyone. I have always struggled with dieting and eating healthy so this book really hit home for me. It makes me look at eating in a whole different light. I do think that this book will help me with some of my bad eating habits.
One of the things that really surprised me about this book was how the book talks about those few hundred calories that can really make a difference in our weight. The mindless margin really interested me in this book. The fact that ten extra calories a day can make you gain a pound in a year. This really just blew my mind! The thought of just an extra cookie a day, which I do often, can affect your weight that much if you do it every day for a year. I also really like that this goes both ways and that if you just cut out those extras that you can lose that weight in a year. (Mindless Eating, 2006, p. 413) …show more content…

I could name any number of them but I will just stick to a couple. I also could not believe how the serving size affects how much a person will eat. The book talks about how something as simple as the size of the serving bowl and the size of the spoon can have such huge effects on how much you eat. I had no idea that because the serving utensils were bigger that this would cause a person to serve themselves more because the food looks small in our dish. I also found it interesting that the size of plates that we use today are much different than plates that were used fifty years ago.
