The book “You’ve Reached Sam” is a book about Julie’s journey moving on from the grief of her boyfriend passing. Julie deserves the title of “hero” based on her observation of her characteristics throughout the book. Julie’s response to a dilemma illustrated her forward thinking personality and self improvement for both others and herself. Her boyfriend’s passing is not only a loss for the relationship, but also the plans, dreams, and hopes that they both share. Amidst Sam’s passing, he picked up Julie's call and started the healing process for both Sam and Julie. Julie starts to appreciate her unexpected path and accepts his death. “You’re wrong about something”? You did leave your mark on the world, Sam. You left a mark on me. You changed my life. And I’ll never forget you”(Page 243). Julie stated that even though he’s gone, he is still there with her. She believes he left a big mark on her life and she’s not scared to face it, instead she will embrace him because he motivated her to be better. ““You can still have all those things, Julie. Because you deserve them, too. And you deserve to fall in love a dozen times, because you are kind and beautiful, and who wouldn’t fall in love with you? You’re one of the best things to ever happen to me. “(Page 292) This quote indicated Julie's growth and although she struggled trying to move on, she changed into a better person and deserving of a bright future.
