Birkenhead Park The nineteenth century is the age of industrialization in Europe. Specially, the population grew rapidly in European cities, and many factories built in everywhere. The citizens lived with terrible living conditions and air pollution in the crowded cities, so their demand needed outdoor, green, and open spaces. People built public parks to improve the living conditions of the citizens. Birkenhead Park located in Merseyside, England and is one of the first public parks which were built by publicly funded park and designed by Joseph Paxton. It is one of the most important landscape architecture in nineteenth century which had many influences on design of modern public parks on the world. The park covered about 143 acres and is bounded by the polygon of surrounding roads, including Park Road North, Park Road East, Park Road South, and Park Road West. A north-south curve path called Ashville Road which divided the park to be two parts, including Upper Park and Lower Park. On the north side of the two parts, there are Upper Lake and Lower Lake. There are many small curve paths link the roads with the two lakes. The paths and roads were well drained, carefully constructed, and convenient for ease of movement around the park, so people of all classes easily access the public park. The circulation system of the park separated carriages and pedestrians, and it is convenient system for different functions (Tate, 145-148). This separation became a major influence to Olmsted to design the Central Park, New York. Therefore, the Birkenhead Park has a good layout which has many influences to design modern public
