Mansa Musa set off on his hajj and traveled thousands of miles through deserts, and strange cities to get to Mecca. Although this was a very religious journey, was this pilgrimage really all for religious purposes? Religion may have been a large motivating factor for this trip, but Mansa Musa did not journey on his hajj just for religious purposes. There were many other motivating factors for why Mansa Musa took this journey. Some motives were to set up better trade for the future, and gain popularity for his kingdom Mali and himself.

With the views of the religious peoples during Elizabeth’s reign leaning towards negativity about a woman ruler, Elizabeth I responded to these challenges against her ability to rule wisely with sophisticated anger and strong leadership, while not responding to the challenges to her authority as a religious leader. One of the main challenges to Elizabeth’s right to rule came from the church. Harvey Milk and the LGBTQ+ community were both oppressed by politicians and their fear of having someone “different” in the world. Both have been denied the basic human rights that are supposedly granted to you in America. America is suppose to be the land of the free, but the LGBTQ+ community and Harvey Milk were in a world where free was only given to you if those around you wanted to grant you freedom.

Over the course of Act II the exchanges between Banquo and Fleance along with Ross and the Old man the word “night” develops its meaning into a signal for the odd happenings occurring during the nighttime. At the beginning of the act Banquo asks his son Fleance, “How goes the night, boy?” while this phrase could simply be a common introductory phrase, it also could mean Banquo is concerned for how his son’s evening really is going (2.1.1). Fleance answers the question unaware of what his father is really asking him but indicates that the night seems to be dragging on. “Night” in this instance is used as its denotation of a time during the late hours of the day, but Banquo indicates that “night” is not just a time of the day but the actions are happening during that time.
Sinclair Lewis’s best selling novel Babbit expresses strong beliefs such as the perfect image of an “ideal citizen”. He believes an ideal citizen is one who is “busier than a bird-dog, not wasting a lot of good time in day-dreaming or going to a sassiety teas or kicking about things that are none of his business. ” He continues by describing someone who contributes to a store, proffession, or art. This essay is a study of how bijin (beautiful people) had been visualised by analysing three artists’ works from the late 17th century to the beginning of the 19th century: Hishikawa Moronobu (1618?-1694), Suzuki Harunobu(1725?-1770), and Kitagawa Utamaro (1753?-1806). Through this analyse, I shall examine how an abstract, fictional entity is materialised; i.e., acquired physicality, based on the performative theory. As I will show in the next chapter, a term, bijin had been used in the Japanese texts as a designation to someone beautiful, since the ancient time. Bijin is one of human categories, but not explicitly tied with any special attributes or division, such as physicality, gender, sexuality, social and familial position.
