Brook school of the deaf and autistic children is a nonprofit home and a learning institution that was started by a proponent who goes by the name Timothy Liani. This institution is located in Zimmerman along Kamiti RD. The school was established established by the Kenya Deaf agenda. This institution was started after the launch of the first beauty contest for the deaf in November 2011. Brook school of the deaf is an institution that houses children with hearing disabilities, autistic children, and cerebral palsy children. About ten kids in the institution suffer from cp. Cerebral palsy can either be mild or extreme. It causes poor coordination, stiff muscles, weak muscles, trouble swallowing and conversions. Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormal development of some parts of the brain that control movement, balance and posture. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder that is caused by the presence of all or a third copy of chromosome21. This chromosome is responsible for delayed physical growth and intellectual abilities. This is called as mental retardation in a layman’s language. Average IQ of an adult with cerebral palsy is equivalent to the IQ of an eight year old kid. In the institution we have one child who goes by the name WAMBUGU who is 36 years of age but he reasons like an eight year old kid. How he eats, plays and talks. Autism is a nuero-developmental disorder that is characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communications, and restricted and repetitive behavior. Most kids with autism have learning abilities due to their low concentration.
