People might get their identity from their family when they grow up or even how different family members treat them. In the memoir Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, She grew up around lots of different family members for the first couple of years in her life she lived in Columbus, Ohio with her father, mother , brother and sister in a house full of pictures and memories from dead family members. Then moved to be influenced by her grandma and grandpa who live in greenville, South Carolina when she moved there. Her family is known for having a strong influential lifestyle. The biggest impact on Jacqueline's life and identity is her family. Jacquliens family would influence her on her way of speech. In this section jacqueline writes about her sister receiving letters saying “She is gifted we are told and i imagine presents surrounding her i am not gifted when i read the words twist twirl across the page when they settle it is too late the class has already moved on i want to catch words one day i want to hold them then blow gently watch them float right out of my hands” (Woodson 169). Jacquline was influenced and motivated to be as smart or smarter than her sister. She also states that she is jealous of her sister wishing she could also be so good at reading. Also she wants to be caught up with everyone in class but she cant and her sister can so she wants to be just like her sister. The most important influence on Jacqueline's life is her family. This is also the reason why she is so influenced by family and confident about
