I was researching online and I found a very interesting case that took place in Houston, Texas. This case involved a 22-year-old female at the time that goes by the name of Cherita Thurman. Cherita was beaten very badly and hog-tied in her apartment back in 2002(KHOU, 2017). The exterminator was making his rounds and that’s when he found her breathless body just lying there. Cherita death was immediately ruled as a homicide because there were no leads to the case (KHOU, 2017).
A woman discovered the bodies of 2 young black men concealed in the vegetation alongside a road in 1979. These murders were the beginning of “Atlanta Child Murders”, which would total, nearly 20 young black males by 1981. These black young men had been strangled or suffocated (Trace evidence Wayne Williams (n.d.). The police had no witnesses only and relied on the forensic evidence of fibers found on the bodies and clothing of the victims.
The book that I decided to read for my quarter book report was Manhunt, The 12 Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson. I chose this book because I thought it would be interesting to learn about how they actually tracked down Abraham Lincoln’s killer after he was assassinated. Manhunt went into a lot of detail about how Lincoln’s killer, John Wilkes Booth, was found. The story started off on the morning of March 4th, 1865, which was the morning of Abraham Lincoln’s second inauguration.
The book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer tells a mysterious story about John Wilkes Booth’s expedition as he tries to escape the soldiers trying to find him. James L. Swanson tell an informational adventure story about how Booth attempted to escape his search. The whole book talked about Booth’s escape journey including his capture. On the night before Lincoln’s assassination Booth could not sleep knowing what he was about to try to accomplish. The final hours that he spent not being the most wanted man in America was at a bar.
James L. Swanson Chasing Lincoln’s Killer 2009 Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is a book about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, a past United States of America president. The introduction of the book is how John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s killer, and his accomplices, made a plan to kidnap the American president, but their plan failed. So, John Wilkes Booth and his little gang decide to kill the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State in one night. John Wilkes Booth would kill the president at Ford’s theater, His accomplice George Atzerodt would kill the Vice President at the Vice President’s hotel room. Lewis Powell and David Herold would kill the Secretary of State.
A murder nearing Knoxville, Tennessee incarcerated a potential suspect. In summary, the defendant was Paul House, House became a lead suspect in a murder known as the Muncy murder. Carolyn Muncy body was discovered near an embankment nearing the end of her driveway. House became a suspect because he was last seen by a witness near the Muncy residence. Once House was in police custody they received blood samples from his pants.
The book I read was “Chasing Lincoln’s killer” by James L. Swanson. This book is about the events that took place before, during, and after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. I enjoyed this book, because it was very informative, as well as fun to read. I also like how there were pictures to help explain the events. This book took place in Washington DC and Canada.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,” Martin Luther Kink Jr. once said. This applies to the Civil War especially. The three works, Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson, Killing Lincoln produced by National Geographic, and the excerpt from The Plot to Kill Lincoln by Karen Zeinhert all use the imagery of light and darkness when talking about Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, and the Civil War in general, though they do not all elaborate on all of the conspirators involved.
Dennis Rader better known as the “BTK Killer” or the “BTK Strangler” terrorized the Wichita Kansas area from 1974 to 1991 by binding, torturing and killing (hence “BTK”) at least 10 victims in that period. For nearly two decades, Rader wasn’t even suspected until nearly fifteen years after his final victim was murdered. In 2005, well after the BTK case became an unsolved cold case with no leads whatsoever, Rader was suddenly a prime suspect. What made him became something of a suspect was because he began taunting the police, by initiating a series of communications with the media.

The only security guard left to get a drink at a nearby bar, while he was gone Booth seized his chance and shot Lincoln In the head. Booth then jumped off onto the stage and broke his left ankle in the process and left.
A couple college students looked at the river and saw something white in the water, that was not a hydroplane. The students walked closer and closer and discovered a skeleton. Thinking it might be a part of a murder, they called the police. This issue is important because, in the tenth section of the Washington state constitution, the section states “Justice shall be administered openly and without unnecessary delay.” (Section 10, Washington state constitution).
Lincoln has been killed It was April 14, 1865 , Booth and his men George Atzerodt, Lewis Powell, are planning to kill the president Abraham Lincoln, the vice president Johnson, and secretary of state Seward. Booth has been planning to kill the president for months and Booth has his plan all ready for April 14th. The president was going to the ford’s theatre to watch a plan and relax with his family. The lincoln’s were supposed to be at the theatre at 8:00 but was running a little late but Booth was prepared for anything.
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was a horrific end to a horrific war. It has also provided nearly endless speculation about what really happened and who really was behind the plot to kill the president. The speculation has been matched by a stream of books about the roles of conspirators and alleged non-conspirators. The assassination also provides endless variations on the blame game as authors examine responsibility for the murder. Even President Lincoln’s wife gets blamed .
Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president of the United States, was our 1st president to get assassinated. He attending the play Our American Cousin at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. before he was shot in the back of his head by the well known theatre actor John Wilkes. Even Though, John was from the south and supported them throughout the war that doesn’t justify him shooting and killing Lincoln. This is not justified because, Lincoln was a big factor in the South surrendering and losing the war, which soon engaged the emancipation proclamation which freed all slaves in america. Being born in Maryland John was a huge slave supporter.
