Brutus and Antony speak in Caesar's funeral, they use ethos, pathos, and logos to get their point across. With the use of the pathos, logos, and ethos Brutus gets the attention of the commoners. He asks the commoners if what he is going to say is going to offend them, if it does he asks of them to leave there and they all tell Brutus no. Antony speaks before Brutus and gets his point across but fails at his point and just gets the crowd thinking. Brutus than uses his speech techniques to win over the commoner’s ears to listen to him. He gives his crowd the option to leave if they thought what he was going to say was nonsense. Brutus and Antony use great points when it came to using pathos. Brutus used, "Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more." (Lines 20-21) He was saying that the reason why he killed Caesar is for Rome itself and not for the simple fact that he did not love his cousin, he still loved Caesar but loved Rome more. Antony said," When the poor have cried, Caesar has wept.” (Line 89) This is saying that no matter what Caesar wanted nothing more than everybody to be treated equally and he felt as he failed Rome when there were still poor Citizens out in Rome and he couldn’t help them. Logos was not used as much as the others, Ethos and Pathos, but still was very effective. Brutus asked of the commoners," Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead to live all free men?" (Lines22-23) The commoners don’t answer because they know Brutus already knows the answer. Brutus also says," I have done no more to Caesar than you will do to me." (Lines 34-35) This is used to show that what Brutus has done is not as brutal as killing someone for the fun of it and that he killed Caesar for The rights of Rome. Antony said, “I have come to bury Caesar not praise him." (Line 72) Antony thinks no more of Caesar than Brutus so he is not there to make Brutus look bad. Brutus is the more persuasive person of Antony and him and was able to get his point across and handle the commoner’s feelings without getting them furious at himself. Brutus was able to get everything he needed done in a time were the commoners did not have time to think and was able to get out that they needed to go after the true enemies.
