Antony’s Speech Using Rhetorical Appeals In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, after Caesar’s death, the Romans are conflicted about what should be done. After Brutus’ speech the Romans are ready to crown Brutus king and be on the conspirators’ side. Though Brutus then leaves the crowd while Antony delivers his speech, the crowd realizes what should be done of Caesar’s murder and Antony prevents the conspirators from getting away with the murder of Caesar.
Julius Caesar was ambushed by his own people. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Caesar is killed by his own people. After he is killed, Brutus and Antony address the crowd growing outside of the Capitol. In Mark Antony’s confrontational speech to the mourners, he establishes his argument that there was no real reason to kill Caesar by convincing the crowd that Caesar is ambitious; he then develops his argument by using pathos, ethos, and logos to change the mob’s stance and ultimately ends his speech by convincing the crowd that Brutus is to blame for Caesar’s death. The first way Antony persuades the audience is through his use of pathos.
To prevent Caesar from making Rome a dictatorship, envious conspirators, with the help of Brutus, plan to kill Caesar. Caesar’s death leaves Antony scarred and he intends to avenge his friend. Antony goes to war with Octavian and is defeated. As a result, he kills himself. Although Antony doesn’t include evidence of how Brutus wasn’t honorable, Antony’s speech is effective at convincing the Roman Citizens that Caesar's murder was not justified.
Brutus tries to impress the crowd by saying that Caesar was going to become a dictator. “Had you rather Caesar were living and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free men?” (ii. III.L 22-24). Brutus gives this reason to make the people think this murderous act was honorable.
As Antony states, “In every wound of Caesar that should move The stones of Rome to rise and mutiny Julius Caesar (3.2 225-226).” Antony, throughout Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, uses vivid descriptions of violence against Caesar to incite the crowd. In his compelling speech to the Roman people, Antony utilizes ethos, pathos, And logos to argue that the conspirators were wrong for killing Caesar. Doing so forces his audience to retaliate.
As Brutus defended his actions as an attempt to save Rome, another one of Caesar’s friends, Marc Antony, argued that it was wrong to kill Caesar, igniting a riot that has swept throughout Rome, hunting those who oppose their late beloved leader. Marc Antony’s speech was an argument
The speeches that they give determine who Rome supports, which leads to the death of one of them. Brutus and Antony use pathos, syntax, and diction to create the specific effect of justifying the murder of Caesar for Brutus and turning the crowd against the conspirators for Antony. Brutus and Antony
Why was Antony’s speech more persuasive than Brutus's? In act three both Antony and Brutus gave a speech to the people of Rome. Brutus’s speech was meant to justify the conspiracy’s actions. Antony’s speech however, was meant to persuade the people that the conspiracy was wrong to kill Caesar. In the story of Julius Caesar, Caesar was inevitably murdered by the conspiracy.
In the play "The Tradedy of Julius Caesar" had a lot of action and a lot of back stabbing and I mean that literally and figuratively. The people I want to talk about to day are Brutus and Antony, and talk about their speech they gave to their adiuance. I want to compare them and see what is similar and what is different. There was a lot of action happening in the play and when you start to get in to the play your suspence starts to build up and then you read the ending and it was horrible what happened.
After bringing out Caesar 's Dead body. Describing what a honorable man his was. And showing them how brutal his killing was. In act three the people are angered and overwhelmed the people kill an innocent man simply because he had the same name as one of the conspirators cinna . the complete chaos ensures rhom may not look seem like a positive reaction to antony 's speech but it is in fact what he wants which is shown through soliloquy through the lack of almost no reaction to brutus logical and ineffective speech it is obvious that antony 's speech is more effective over the people of rome as speeches as a whole this shows that emotional appeal causes a much bigger reaction than logic and reason.
My fellow Romans, As of two days ago, 14 Februarius, I have been given the honor to lead and guide this astonishing republic toward triumph and prosperity. Due to my unyielding and solid past around the Mediterranean, I will make Rome great again with some of the most splendid and superb reforms this glorious land has ever received. My first and foremost action that I plan to take is reconstructing how we treat our soldiers and past soldiers. They are not nearly paid as much as they deserve to be and their service, unfortunately, is more than forgotten after they have served our republic.
It all started with a man who envied him named Cassius that persuaded Brutus a so called friend of Caesar to betray Caesar. From that point on other men who had bad blood running in their veins helped execute Caesar to purge Rome. Unfortunately, this story was titled,” The Tragedy of Julius Caesar” written in 1599 to demonstrate the use of rhetorical devices that helped spice up Shakespeare’s writing and to teach the power of rhetoric. In the passage, at Caesar’s funeral, two individuals get to read their speeches. Antony uses repetition, pathos, and ethos to connect with
In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus and Mark Anthony give speeches after Caesars death to the people of Rome. Each speech has it's benefits for the matter as well as shows each players true intentions for deciding what's next for the city of Rome. Brutus wants what's best for the people while Mark Anthony wants another dictatorship to rule. Each Character has his own skills to help develop their plot for the conclusion of the play.
Marcus Junius Brutus and Mark Antony both deliver speeches to justify the death of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE and both use Logos and Ethos to convince the Roman citizens to join their sides. Both sides deliver their speeches with vehemence and start by elucidating why Brutus killed Caesar to begin with, why Antony’s desire for revenge is justified, and what the future of Rome will be because of his death. Antony teases the citizens of Rome with the will of Caesar that he holds in hand and claims it will dishonor Brutus and the other conspirators and is also one of his vital uses of Ethos in his speech. Most of the citizens, if not all of them side with Antony and will most likely help him accede to a great title of power in the future and also betray Brutus because of what Antony has them believe, i.e. an ignoble assassin. Brutus and Antony 's speeches were both compelling, although Antony´s speech was more successful, but it is because he was able to manipulate the people of Rome with
In the two stories, they both have different tones and ideas. Each person is different and has different stand points . None of them share the same ideas or points however some share a few things. Brutus speech seems stiff and rehearsed.
