Antony’s Speech Using Rhetorical Appeals In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, after Caesar’s death, the Romans are conflicted about what should be done. After Brutus’ speech the Romans are ready to crown Brutus king and be on the conspirators’ side. Though Brutus then leaves the crowd while Antony delivers his speech, the crowd realizes what should be done of Caesar’s murder and Antony prevents the conspirators from getting away with the murder of Caesar.
ii.83-84), this shows the roman how Brutus does not feel any remorse or sympathy which could raise suspicions of foul play, which would make them listen to romans. Antony's speech becomes more persuasive because of what Brutus said caused the Romans to not trust him. Many times throughout the speech Brutus seems to have no sympathy when saying his speech which shows us that he doesn’t care for Cesar. this will cause the people to have doubt in Brutus. This is one of the many reasons why Antony's speech is more persuasive.
At the funeral, both of Caesar’s friends, Brutus and Antony, made a speech. In Brutus’s speech he was very concise and was saying that he did it all for Rome. Brutus used logos and ethos in his speech. To fortify his speech, he used logos which is logic and reason. In his speech, he says listen to my reasons and he goes onto his reasons that Caesar would have become ambitious and enslaved them all.
To begin, the rhetorical device of logos is very commonly used among those trying to persuade a targeted audience to take their side, using logic, to convey the information. This device is used multiple times throughout Antony’s speech, and is the primary tool focused on by Brutus in his public cry. The contrast is that Brutus is using the device more to show his accountability, honor, and to better reason logistically with the crowd. He also gears more towards the logic of things
The appeals in Antony’s speech were persuasively better than the use of them in Brutus’s speech. Marc Antony uses all three appeals in his speech to make a very sturdy argument. An example of logos in his speech is when he states, “He hath brought many captives home to Rome Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill: Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?” This speech is Antony stating facts of Caesar’s work which proves that he is not ambitious and does not deserve to be killed. Antony also uses ethos and pathos when he says, “He was my friend, faithful and just to me.”
Brutus uses the appeals of Ethos, Pathos, Logos to manipulate the thoughts and feelings of the plebeians to join Brutus’
Brutus’s speech had the Romans agreeing with him only for the moment, but Antony’s speech was more sympathetic which had the better
Brutus uses a combination of logic and reasoning in his approach to ensure that the crowd understands why Julius Caesar had to be killed. Firstly, Brutus tells the audience
Persuasion is a big part of the speeches and there is a lot of jelousy and greed. Greed leads people to jelousy and that is never a good thing to happen. Jelousy can lead people to do things they usually wouldn’t do. Persuasion is used a lot to convince people to believe in what they are saying. Although Brutus used a lot of good reasonings involving pathos, Antony delivers the more effective speech because he knew Caesar more and he was much closer to him
Honestly I think antony did a better job at persuading than brutus did because he used examples from julius’s life and all he did.
Brutus uses logos to appeal to the audience’s reason by explaining that Caesar’s murder was necessary, lest his ambition would grow and reduce the common folk to slaves. He conveys that sacrifice was necessary to preserve freedom in Rome, thus it was reasonable to sacrifice Caesar for the greater good. Brutus continues to exercise logos in the statement “There is tears for his (Caesar’s) love; joy for his fortune; honour for his valour; and death for his ambition” (JC 3.2). Brutus assigns consequences to Caesar’s various beneficial and detrimental attributes.
In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar one of the main characters Caesar is killed in Scene 3 act 2.Then Brutus and Antony both give speeches about how bad they feel. Brutus gives a good speech by using all three of the rhetorical appeals to persuade the crowd to want to listen to what he say by using logos, ethos, pathos to his advantage. Brutus gives a better speech that draws the audience attention,Antony not as much. Therefor here are some very valid points on why Brutus’s speech used the Rhetorical Appeals better.
n the two speeches that Brutus and Mark Antony wrote in Julius Caesar they both had different understandings on Julius Caesar's death. Brutus seemed to think that Julius Caesar's death was ok and no need to find the murderer, but Mark Antony wanted to find his murderer because he was close to Julius Caesar. All of this and Brutus still saw Julius Caesar as a honorable man, but his death isn't as important as Rome is. In Brutus' speech he shows his devotion is given first to Rome then to his close friends.
Two Compelling Speeches In Shakespeare’s tragedy story, Julius Caesar, Antony’s speech, Antony got more support because he spoke the people’s tone, while Brutus did not because he spoke in an intellect that the people could not understand. The speech given by Antony was more direct to the people compared to Brutus’s. Antony spoke in their words and used rhetoric. In Antony’s speech, Antony supplies himself with items to help persuade the people.
Marcus Junius Brutus and Mark Antony both deliver speeches to justify the death of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE and both use Logos and Ethos to convince the Roman citizens to join their sides. Both sides deliver their speeches with vehemence and start by elucidating why Brutus killed Caesar to begin with, why Antony’s desire for revenge is justified, and what the future of Rome will be because of his death. Antony teases the citizens of Rome with the will of Caesar that he holds in hand and claims it will dishonor Brutus and the other conspirators and is also one of his vital uses of Ethos in his speech. Most of the citizens, if not all of them side with Antony and will most likely help him accede to a great title of power in the future and also betray Brutus because of what Antony has them believe, i.e. an ignoble assassin. Brutus and Antony 's speeches were both compelling, although Antony´s speech was more successful, but it is because he was able to manipulate the people of Rome with
