Persuasion is a big part of the speeches and there is a lot of jelousy and greed. Greed leads people to jelousy and that is never a good thing to happen. Jelousy can lead people to do things they usually wouldn’t do. Persuasion is used a lot to convince people to believe in what they are saying. Although Brutus used a lot of good reasonings involving pathos, Antony delivers the more effective speech because he knew Caesar more and he was much closer to him and he was able to use pathos a lot more. Antony knew Caesar more and was much closer to him which means that he has a lot more to say about him. So it would make more sense that he had the better convincing speech about someone that he knew personally. A good example would be “He was my friend, faithful and just to me” (Shakespeare 3.2.12-13) Another good example of how well Antony knew Caesar well is when he said “When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept” (Shakespeare 3.2.18-19). Since Caesar saw Antony as a friend Anonty was able to say things that had more meaning. One example of Antony using pathos is ‘Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears’ ( Shakespeare 3.2 1-2) Another good example is ‘I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.’ (Shakespeare 3.2 2-3). Antony adresses them as friends,Romans, and countrymen to gain their trust and appeal to them and he is also asking them to listen to what he has to say instead of just demanding them to listen to him.
