Brutus took actions that were necessary for the well-being of Rome. All the conspirators that were part of the plot against Caesar were all scared of the same thing. Caesar coming into power and having absolute rule. They all believe that if he gains full control, it would be bad for Rome and its people. They form a plan together to take Caesar out of power. Cassius is one of the lead conspirators in the plot to kill Caesar. He believes that he would be a better ruler than Caesar. Cassius himself seems a bit greedy and egotistical, but Brutus keeps him in check during the conspiracy. They also try to convince Brutus to agree to kill Antony with Caesar but he disagrees saying “To cut the head off and then hack the limbs, Like wrath in death and envy afterwards; For Antony is but a limb of Caesar.” (Act 2, Scene 1, Line 176-178). …show more content…
Brutus had a plethora of mental struggles while making this decision. Brutus was not like the other conspirators, while Cassius wanted to kill Caesar and Antony mercilessly, Brutus didn't see it like that. He saw it as something that needed to happen for the good of Rome and its people. For him specifically, he knew that if Caesar was able to get into power, then it would be too late and they couldn't kill him. Although he had mutual respect and a personal liking for Caesar, he knew that it had to be done. “Let’s kill him boldly, but not wrathfully”. Let’s carve him as a dish fit for the gods, Not hew him as a carcass fit for hounds” (Act 2, Scene 1, Line 185-187). Brutus is potentially the most honorable character in the story. Cassius sees this and realizes that he needs Brutus to pull this off successfully. He also manages to manipulate Brutus by leaving fake notes to persuade him. Some may see this as cruel and manipulative on Cassius’s part, but he thinks it’s for the greater good. “Brutus anxiously ponders joining the conspiracy against
