Jealousy is a feeling that we feel when we wish had what others had. When feeling this way, we often commit very foolish acts that only make sense in the heat of the moment. Julius was described as a man of “great antiquity and nobility” (Witkoski). In William Shakespeare's play “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar”, he denied the throne three consecutive times after being named “dictator for life”(Beard). So the question is, if he was so loved by the people, why was he murdered? The answer is quite simple actually. Jealousy was the main motive for the death of Julius Caesar. However, him and Caesar have had political disagreements in the past (Corrigan). In order for them to convince Brutus to join the murder plan, they had to make it seem as if the people of Rome didn’t want Caesar ruling. Cassius then forged letters pretending to be the citizens of Rome. He was hoping that Brutus would set aside his personal feelings and put Rome’s best interest first (Atchity). This was one of the only acts in the murder of Julius Caesar that jealousy was a conflicting feeling. Rather so, Antony felt guilty for betraying Caesar as he did. The people then became very angry at Brutus and began to question his nobility, In conclusion, Julius Caesar was not a long lived ruler. Jealousy got the best of people, and so came their foolish acts. William Shakespeare did however put a few twist on the actual story of the murder.
