Brutus has a hero complex; this is his Achilles heel. The way he justifies his actions makes it sound like he is taking credit for the great deed of murder. Antony uncovers this and uses it to expose Brutus’s hypocrisy. Ethos, logos, and pathos add substantial potency to Antony’s persuasiveness. No matter the motive, the crowd was bound to see the flaws of Brutus’s defense.
Has Brutus truly justified the need to kill Caesar or has he simply rationalized it for himself? Brutus has multiple reasons that support him in joining the conspiracy to kill Julius Caesar. He did the right thing by joining the conspiracy because he’s loyal to the people of Rome. Brutus believes that Caesar will become full of himself once he’s in power and forget about the people. Lastly he thinks that Caesar is rude and arrogant towards others.
Throughout the entirety of William Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, one can find many examples of rhetoric; however it is especially seen in the speeches given by the characters Brutus and Antony in Act III Scene II. Ethos, a rhetorical device that establishes credibility and principles, can be found at the beginning of the speech Brutus delivers to the plebians; Brutus states, “Be patient till the last. Romans, Countrymen, and lovers, hear me for my cause, and be silent, that you may hear. Believe me for mine honor, and have respect to mine honor, that you may believe. Censure me in your wisdom, and awake your senses” (III.ii. 13-18).
Keep Power or Kill If you believed that the only way to save your state was to kill one of your friends, would you? The character Brutus killed one of his friends in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar(JC) by William Shakespeare. Some people believe that he is a villain and only killed Caesar to keep his own power in the government. However many people think that he killed Julius Caesar to help prevent Rome from becoming dictatorship.
Brutus believes that Caesar will do more harm than good to the people, and reap benefits for himself. Brutus has already said this, but had said it in his own words, (II, i, 12-14). He has no clue if Caesar will use his power for the good and betterment for the people, or use it for his own needs and other
Brutus realized the great harm Caesar could bring to Rome if the was crowned king. Although Brutus was easily persuaded by Cassius to go as far as committing a murder, Brutus did it because he thought that it was the best for Rome. Brutus does what he thinks is the absolute best for Rome which really shows his great honor and
Brutus has a vision, and he intends it to work out in every way he plans. In a sense he achieves what he wants, and killing Caesar may have been crucial to his short-lived success.
Honor: high respect; esteem. What is Honor to me? Honor to me is a quality that a person has. Honor is something a person earns. No one is born with honor.
This broad topic can be only defined in the eye of the beholder. From century to century honor has changed from one meaning to a completely different one. In the time of Gladiators and great roman armies, warriors gained their honor on the battlefield risking their lives for the ones that they loved or what they believed in. Honor perceived during the old days was that your honor
Honor means to me that you did something for you or someone else. The definition of honor is being high in royal and to be respect for something you did or be esteemed or honorable. Some synonyms are glory which means to have given something really cool for something you did another one is privilege is where you are given a privilege for what you have done. Some antonyms are dishonor which is the exact opposite of honor which means you did something horrible. Another antonym is shame which means you did something even worse than dishonor for example you attempted to murder someone.
Brutus has negatively affected the outlook of Rome and created more harm than good for the situation. Not only did it harm Rome, but it brought his own demise and hallucinations of Caesar’s ghost. Brutus’s speech to the plebeians after Caesar’s death, about his dilemma and his viewpoint towards Caesar, influenced the viewpoints of the plebeians and causes them to believe he is the best roman until Antony speaks to them. Brutus’s idealism led to his own death later on and brought him more misery than his idealism could
(II, i, 53-55) which allows to say that he wants Rome to be just and do whatever it takes to maintain it away from any threat. Indeed, Brutus states this very clearly when he says, “If it’s for the good of all Romans, I’d do it even if it meant my death. Let the gods give me good luck only as long as I love honor more than I fear death.” (I, ii, 86-88), he explicitly says that the good of the majority is over any feeling or personal benefit which in this case is the love of Caesar for him and viceversa, and the throne. To conclude, Brutus is a complex character that is characterized by three recurrent traits: his well-intention, his hypocrisy, and his naivet.
Honor can be defined many ways and can’t be given one definition. In an article written by a journalist for New York The Sun, Shalin Punn about James Bowman and his book Honor: A History, he states about honor “the concept of honor has been subject to a "change in meaning,"
Honor is a word that is found from a long time ago, to be honor to someone, or be the honor itself. The honor is achieved by a person through his lifetime, and it’s something all of us humans trying to find, so we could discover the true meaning of our life. People go through struggles and misfortune in their life, to find that trait. From a story to another you are going to realize, how the characters are trying not to lose what they have. It is a motive to let you achieve the impossible, not even death would stop you from gaining your honor.
The definition for Honor is high respect. To me the word Honor means a lot more to me than high respect, my definition of honor is a lot of hard work and dedication. For example Stephen Hawking was a very hardworking man and he had a disease called ALS, ALS is when over time you eventually become paralysed. Even though he had this horrible disease it didn’t stop him from experimenting and discovering new things.
