Honor: high respect; esteem. What is Honor to me? Honor to me is a quality that a person has. Honor is something a person earns. No one is born with honor. When a person has done something “honorable” or good they earn praise. They give themselves credit and this builds their self worth to them. When a person has honor they have pride within them. They high on a pedestal for their actions. Willard Gibbs was an astounding scientist. WIth his many achievements and opportunities. Willard Gibbs lived a quiet but esteemed life. In analyzing its equilibrium, he began to develop the method by which the equilibriums of chemical processes could be calculated. With all of his work he was bond for a great award. But sadly one never came. Later though his work did amount to something. Gibbs worked on a paper that was later to be one of his most famous papers. On the Equilibrium of Heterogeneous Substances was his most famous work. The importance of his work was immediately recognized by the Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell in England, who constructed a model of Gibbs’s thermodynamic surface with his own hands and sent it to him. This man who once believed that he would never be famous in the science world was proved wrong. This great man changed the way the world viewed heterogenous substances. This was a very big accomplishment because that is still studied today. The work he made is still looked at over 100 years later and will continue to be looked at. Now when you ask if this man had honor you can only come up with one answer. That would be yes. This man did not only have honor thought the world but he had honor in his family and friends.
