Christopher Browning’s book, Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 explains the story of the most infamous mass killing in modern history and the ordinary men who participated in this genocide. In this book Browning provides insight into who these ordinary men really are and their horrendous acts. The Police Battalion 101 became a mass-execution squad in Poland in 1942-43. Surprisingly every single one of these men were able to make the decision to avoid partaking in the killings with no repercussions, some left, while some stated that they were given no such choice and that they didn’t hear that part. When given the orders to take out these innocent Jews, some of the men pleaded that the reason they were hesitant to kill was the fact that they were simply just too weak.

The book “A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” is an autobiography about a boy named Ishmael who went through so much at a young age. This book should be read because it’s a story you could relate to and give you a perspective of how society is today than it was before and how it has affected people across the world. On the (front cover of the book) Carolyn See from the Washington Post says “Everyone in the world should read this book… We should read It to learn about the world and about what it means to be human.” She’s right, reading this book will provide you with facts you never known and could change the way you see things today.
“The good soldier” by Colin Powell. What is racism to you? The reason why I asking this question is because in this story talks about it. The story gives you a piece of what Colin was going throw growing up and in adulthood. this story “the good soldier” by Colin Powell reminds me of a time, that people are quick to judge other people of their race, background or where they are from.
As legend goes, every Joint Task Force Guantanamo Trooper adapts to one of four specific archetypes by the end of their time at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Are you a gym rat or do you prefer peace and solitude at the end of a work day to reflect on your thoughts? Or quite possibly do you prefer a smooth stiff drink or a decadent fatty meal? Regardless of your naughty decisions supposedly every JTF Trooper will fall into one of the four categories before their demobilization back home: a hunk, chunk, drunk or monk. Although my thought is pure and simple, why not become a collaboration of all of the above?
Book Review 2: Soldiers, Statesmen, and Cold War Crises by Richard Betts Summary: Betts starts off his book by recognizing the ambiguity around the advocacy of the use of force in a crisis by military leaders even though there is a prevalent assumption that military professionals are more aggressive than diplomats and politicians. He states he writes the book in order to provide a comprehensive survey of the postwar role of American military men in decisions on their most essential function, their use of force in combat. Betts acknowledges the vast availability of literature on military participation in decisions on defense budgets and weapons procurement, but feels there is a void when looking at decision-making from the perspective of military leadership versus civilian leadership.
In the poem, “What Every Soldier Should Know”, Brian Turner, details the ever-present threat of death in a war zone. This poem expesses not only the terror of the American soldiers, but also exemplifies the emotions that the Middle Eastern soldiers feel towards the American soldiers. The soldiers are experiencing death, chaos, and disorder, but for some of the middle eastern people, they experience that every day. A lot of Middle Eastern people are normal people, defending their home land, their family, and their country.
As a daughter of a United States Marine, I have a real-life perspective on veterans. I have deep respect for my father, and all veterans who have put their lives on the line for America. My heart really goes out to those soldiers fighting this very moment. My brother-in-law has an old high school friend that went into the National Guard. While this friend was away he encountered a form of great disrespect.
Pattern of Discrimination in Police Agencies Discrimination in police agencies is a big problem in this country. This discrimination comes in different forms and names. The three mains types are Institutionalized discrimination, Contextual discrimination, and Individual acts of discrimination. These patterns of discrimination can occur because that’s the way it has always has been done or because of the situation. Ethnic groups pose problems for police agencies including language barriers and their prior contacts with law enforcement.

The examples previously described also provide a connection of one familiar form of police misconduct and that is brutality. Police brutality is just one of the many forms of police misconduct and the types that follow under misconduct include theft/fraud, bribery, sexual misconduct, use of excessive force, domestic
