In this article, Command Sgt. Maj. Chris Faris and his wife Lisa Faris talk to an audience about the struggles they endured during their 22 year marriage. During, "The Chris and Lisa Show," they wanted the service members, and their spouses, to know that they are not alone with their marital problems and challenges. The show touched specifically on the issues that may come from not being at home and working long deployments. It is great to see that Command Sergeant Major Chris and his wife Lisa Faris are helping others through their tours, but also through radio as discussed in the podcast.

These differences are based on his own personal experiences as a native of Sierra Leone and a resident in New York. Beah was a teenage soldier in his native town during the civil war that his country faced during the 1990’s. He participated in that war as a teenage soldier representing his government against the rebel fighters.

“My Son the Marine” by Frank Schaeffer and John Schaeffer gives us a look into the life of a mother and father; and their feelings toward their son enlisting into the Marine corp. John had aspirations of joining the military to serve his country. He had spoken to recruiters from the Army, Air force, and the Navy but had yet spoken to the Marine Corp. John was taken by the appearance of the two Marines that visited his home. After he spoke with the Marines he decided that if he was going to join the military he would definitely join the Marine Corps.
His passing inspired his his wife, Taya Kyle, to begin a foundation that rebuilds family relationships. She names this the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation which takes pride in “returning power back to the family unit.” ( Chris Kyle Frog Foundation). What goes highly unnoticed about the military is how difficult it is to keep a family together while the father or mother of your children is out overseas. Taya said regarding the foundation’s mission, “Trees without roots fall over – and sometimes those roots need re-generation – that is what we’re here for.
Big Brothers Big Sisters makes sure that the mentors respect the military core such as honor, courage, and commitment. Mentors of military children know that it is not their responsibility to fill the shoes of parent or in this case boots of parents that are on duty. It was in 1775 when my story first started. People described this date as American’s moral triumph, but for a soldier, I did not think as much. We failed to prevail at Bunker Hill, which started our poor track record of working together. We had been losing a lot of battles because we were not a well put together army. One year later, while the British were occupying New York, Washington led us in two surprise victories in the Trenton and Princeton Battles.
Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.

A Soldier’s Dilemma Like many others in his regiment, Henry Fleming, protagonist in The Red Badge of Courage, expects the Battle of Chancellorsville to be filled with heroism and legendary acts of dauntless heroism. Heroism, however, seems nowhere to be found, and Henry is left questioning his own valor. In The Red Badge of Courage, Crane writes Henry Fleming as a flawed yet good-hearted character by revealing his inner thoughts as he runs from the battle, his actions directed toward comrades, and by displaying Henry’s differences at the end of the story to emphasize the inner struggle between courage and cowardice.
From the moment I was born I was considered a military brat, I was born in Hawaii at tripler hospital because my mom was in the army and stationed there, my biological father was in the marines. When my mom remarried when I was 7, she married a man who was in the Navy. Everyone thinks being a Military brat just means you know more than other people because you 've been more places and seen more things and you get a lot of stuff you want. This is not true at all. Coming from a military background means you never have stability, you are held to a higher standard than all the other kids, and sometimes it makes you want to be in the military and only focus on that.
Davannah Knatt Communication Communication is the imparting or exchanging of information. At the work place, communication verbally and nonverbally is extremely important. In order for the unit to effectively grow, we need to improve our communication and it starts with the leaders. Once the leaders communicate better then the soldiers will feel comfortable and this will create a nonhostile environment. Better communication within our unit would create a better morale.
