Quotation 1: “...and yet there it was- a black book with silver words written against the ceiling...) (Zusak 29) So far, this quotation marks the first book Liesel has stolen. The significance of this quote is that it represents the beginning of “an illustrious career” (29) which she will continue to carry out throughout this novel. It signifies Liesel’s everlasting love for her brother because she wanted to remember him someway, and that someway ended up being the book she “stole” when he was buried.
.Brian ’s winter by: Gary Paulsen and call of the wild by: Jack London. There are three traits that both Brian and buck have here they are.
Buck decided he would help other dogs fight against Spitz and would protect the dogs from their punishments that came from Spitz. Another thing, is he would not fight Spitz in plain sight because he didn’t want to get caught by their dog’s master. He also rebelled against Spitz by swaggering in front of him to get on Spitz’s nerves. Buck did everything he could to help the other dogs by leading them. This is how Buck was able to rebel against Spitz and didn’t get caught at the same
Firstly, Jake Barnes, a World War I veteran who as a result of a war injury is impotent, is a direct representation of an alienated character being pressured to conform to society. He served his country and hence conformed to society’s expectation and fulfilled his role as a male citizen. But now due to his injury, he can no longer conform to society’s expectations of him. Although he does not say so directly, there are numerous moments in the novel when he implies that, as a result of his injury, he has lost the ability to have sex. He will never have biological children and likely will not find romantic love.
Buck stood and looked on, the successful champion, the dominant primordial beast who had made his kill and found it good” (London 21). One’s perspective on Buck should have changed by now because he has gone from being an innocent dog to becoming a dog that kills to get what he wants. Has Buck become the bad guy now and Spitz is the good guy or are they both the same? How did Buck win one might be wondering could Spitz have let him win because early in the chapter Spitz was described as a “... practiced fighter.
We all consider ourselves relatively civil people. That we have evolved over time. That we could never go back to savagery. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys crash on an island without any adult guidance or supervision. They quickly make Ralph their chief, and Ralph decides to make Jack the leader of a group of hunters that were in the choir group that Jack aso lead.
Buck’s great genes and extensive training have allowed him to become more agile than any foe he is pitted against. So when Jack London is talking about Buck fighting a pack of wolves he say “he was everywhere at once” meaning that buck is so quick to strike that there is nowhere that the wolves aren’t vulnerable. The inclusion of this hyperbole gives us a sense of how Buck has evolved from a simple house dog to a wild killer of great strength.
Many people today think that rapper Jay-Z is an example of this rags to riches type of story, he had began selling drugs and then ended up rapping to become the millionaire he is today. In the novel The Great Gatsby, author F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays the idea of the american dream into one character, this character goes by the name Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby’s is idolised throughout the book for being very rich and throwing very magnificent parties but, what many people do not know about him how he has obtained this rich and wealthy status. Jay Gatsby or James Gatz was born into a poor family but still ended up becoming wealthy because he started bootlegging and making connections with gangsters which made him a fortune.
Unfortunately many people lose hope because of difficulties in life. The same goes for Buck, George, and Lennie. In the Call of the Wild in chapter IV Buck kills Spitz then established him as the leader
In the book it talks about the antagonist a little bit anyway. Spitz, one of the other dogs in the book, is the antagonist to Buck. Buck later kills Spitz and fights for his place as leader. This part gets me because usually you shouldn't fight for leader although they are dogs I get that, but the dogs have been working together for a bit now and they still aren't getting along. You would think they would start getting along a bit
Adventually Buck got tired of how Spitz treated not just him, but the other dogs to. When the starving huskies broke into their camp Spitz and Buck didn’t realize because they were to busy showing their own teeth. When Buck tried to help fight off the huskies Spitz still went after him. After that Buck and Spitz were always going at it Spitz would bight Buck, Buck would bight Spitz. On one night while Francois and Perrault were sleeping Buck killed Spitz.
Spitz was untouched, while Buck was streaming with blood and painting hard . And all the while the silent and wolfish circle waited to finish off whichever dog went down. As Buck grew winded, Spitz took to rushing, and he knocked Buck off his feet. Buck was gasping for air . Spitz walked back , not a scratch on him charged buck again .
As Jim Rohn once said, “It is not what happens that determines the major part of your future... it is what you do about what happens that counts.” Buck, the main character in the novel The Call of the Wild, is a victim of life 's many unexpected obstacles. From domesticated and tamed to wild and primitive, the transformation of Buck from beginning to end is a result of nature and nurture combined. Nature, his genetic makeup, proves to be the most dominant in his development of becoming a free creature of the wilderness.
Buck is being called into the wild. His life events changed who he was and sent him free in spirit and body. Once Thornton was kill Buck was able to be free and just be a wild dog with the others (napierkowski). In my opinion, this book shouldn’t have been in the category of banned and challenged books.
Buck is a dog from Santa Clara Valley, a dog who lived in a huge house. He was the king of the property and was petted, fed well and treated like a loved and cherished dog. Buck was living a pampered life, where he had everything he want until the day where he was stolen, sold, and brought to an unknown environment. Buck has went through a change where he had to adapt quickly for survival. A place where he had to steal to eat, defend himself in order to survive.
